Design Principles
When designing a graphic message the following principles of design should be considered:
  • Balance
  • Proportion
  • Contrast
  • Harmony
  • Unity
  • These factors help determine the effectiveness of the design.

The Creative Design Process
All printed products (magazines, books, labels) are designed first. Designers go through a sequence of steps to create a design that is ready for printing reproduction. The creative design process consists of four major steps:

    1. Thumbnail Sketches
    2. Rough Layouts
    3. Comprehensive Layouts
    4. Camera Ready-Art

The creative process is aided by the use of computers. Some designers use computers to create thumbnail sketches, rough sketches, comprehensive layouts.

Designing with a computer can make the design process much easier. This is because the computer makes changes quickly and accurately. Using such technology, a designer can quickly change text and graphics within seconds or minutes.
