Selection Tricks
- Use Marquee tool OR lasso tool for selecting parts of an image.
- Use Magic Wand for irregular-sized objects.
- Use tolerance level in navigator to increase or decrease
area selected by Magic Wand.
- Press Shift key and click on additional sections of
an image to increase selected area when using Magic Wand
- To decrease it, press Option key and click
Superimposing images
...or "How to put someone's head on another's body so it looks real"
- Open both files ... make sure they're both scaled at 100%
- Select using marquee, lasso, or magic wand
- If either image is disproportionate ... scale it down using
"image/image size"
- Combine both images using copy/paste; move/drag/drop
- Choose layer/transform/scale
- Shift/drag & grab handles to scale image proportionately
- Double-click cursor inside marquee
Using layers
- Layers allow you to add, delete, edit or paint different
elements of an image without affecting the other
- Go window/show layers or press F7 using a two-layered image
- To do any editing in one layer, click on it, then start using your
tools
- To change the layer's order, grab the icons and move them around.
You can also trash images using icons.
- To rename the layer, double click on the palette
- Try the opacity lever and the popup menus on the layers navigator
to see what happens
Assignment
- Produce a superimposed image using the selection and
layering techniques described above. Use at least two layers.
- Write an analysis similar to the ones in the previous assignments.
